Where the Crawdads Sing 2018 is an American novel written by Delia Owens. This novel has been one of the top novels in 2019 and 2020. And in 2021 this novel has been included in the list of bestseller novels. The book is divided into two parts, the first of which deals with a girl named Kya. From 1952 to 1969, they were trapped in a swamp in North Carolina and raised there. And the second part of this book is about the murder investigation of Chase Andrews which is being investigated by Barkley Cove.
A film has also been made about this book which is named after the book itself. Delia Owens is an American author and zoologist. His date of birth is about 1949. She grew up in Thomasville, in south Georgia. She and her husband Mark Owens were students at the University of Georgia in the 1950s. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in zoology from this university. And in the same field of Ph.D in 1974 they both went to Africa. Cry of the Kalahari says he was expelled from the country by Botswana officials for campaigning against the local livestock industry. After completing his Ph.D., he began studying African wildlife and the environment. He wrote many articles on Natural History and International Wildlife with the aim of reaching as many people as possible.
Part 1 ( The Marsh )
The first part of this book is called The Marsh. In which we are told that in 1952 a six-year-old girl named Catherine Danielle Clark was affectionately named Kya. And they live in North Carolina. Due to Kya’s father’s alcoholism and physical abuse, all the family members leave Kya and her father. Kya is eagerly awaiting her mother, sister, and brothers. Then she is left alone with her father. After a while, her dad cuts down on alcohol. Then Catherine Danielle’s dad teaches her to fish. After some time Kya receives a letter in the mailbox that was sent to her mother. Kya leaves the letter on the table to find her father. When his father reads this letter, he gets angry. And Catherine also burns Danielle’s mother’s belongings.
Again, he is addicted to alcohol and gambling, and even after a long time, when his father does not come home, Kya realizes that he may be dead. Now Kya is completely alone because there was a father who lived with her but now he also left.
Part 2 ( The Swamp )
The other part of Where the Crawdads Sing 2018 is called The Swamp. From here it is told about the period in 1965 when Kya turns 19 years old. Then Chase Andrews, Barkley Cove, and playboy speak to her at one of their parties. Where he is trying to have sex. But later they apologize to him. Then a romantic relationship is established between the two. Her suspicions are not dispelled, but she still believes in marrying Chase. But one day it will come back after shopping. So read the news in Chase’s second marriage newspaper. It was a conspiracy to make him realize that he had a winning relationship with her. After which the relationship between the two ends. But after a while, Tate completes his college studies. After which he goes to Kya’s hut to meet Kya so that he can apologize for leaving Kya.
But when Tate left her there was no one with her which made her very sad so she rejected her love. But they still let Tate go to their hut. When Tate sees the vast expanse of seashells in his hut, he is impressed. When Tate is impressed, he advises her to write a book on seashells. 1968 when he was 22 years old. So she writes a book on a sea bird. And this year Jodie who was in the Army returns to Kya’s life. He expressed regret and broke the news that his mother was suffering from a mental illness. He died of leukemia two years later. In those years no one in the whole family supported him. On October 30, 1969, Chase was found dead under a fire tower. Ed Jackson is investigating the case.
He said there were no signs of injuries or accidents on his body. Chase wore a necklace and shell the night before he died. But he was not with her after she died. At the time of her death, Chase had red wool fibers on her jacket, similar to those on Kya’s hat. Kya was found guilty of murder and sent to prison for two months.
