The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is a professional twenty cricket league contested from February to the march of every year by six teams representing six cities in Pakistan. The league was founded on 9 September 2015. Pakistan Cricket Board office in Lahore. In 2017, Najam Sethi announced the addition of a sixth team to the PSL. PCB selected five cities FATA, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, Dera Murad Jamali and Multan for the sixth team and finally Multan Sultan was included as the sixth team on 1 June 2017.
History of the Pakistan Super League
Establishment
In September 2015, the Pakistan Cricket Board officially announced the launch of the PSL.
Former Pakistan national team caption Waseem Akram and Rameez Raja signed up to promote the PSL.
The PSL’s official logo was launched on 20 September 2015 in a ceremony in Lahore and was relieved by 3Di. The ceremony was attended by current and retired cricketers, as well as Pakistani celebrities.
Trophy
On 19 February 2020, The current version of the trophy for the league was invalid squash player Jahangir Khan alongside then PCB chairman Ehsan Mani at National Stadium, Karachi. 65 cm tall and weighing 8 kg, this trophy is decorated with a halal red, star and stripes of different colors. The trophy is awarded to the winning team.
Individual Awards
The Hanif Mohammad award and a green cap are awarded to the leading run scorer wearing the cap throughout the tournament until the final game, with the eventual winner keeping the cap and receiving the award for the season.
Schedule
PSL has taken place in February and March of each year. The only exception was the interruption due to COVID-19. The PSL has taken place prior to the Indian premier league in 2025 PSL and IPL will overlap in timing.
Sponsorship
The sponsorship initial title sponsorship was awarded to HBL Pakistan for three years in December 2015. Sponsorship deals associated with the league including the title sponsorship, are estimated to be worth more then$6 a million. HBL Later renewed its sponsorship for three more years. In 2021 PCB announced that HBL retrained the title sponsorship of the PSL for 4 more years till 2025.
Broadcasters
For the first three seasons, the title was held by Sunset and Vine as official producers and was also telecast live on PTV, Sports, Ten Sports, and GeoSuper. The fourth, fifth and sixth seasons are being broadcast by PTV Sports HD and A Sports HD.For the next four seasons from 2022 to 2025, PSL sold the production rights to Trans Group International as the official global broadcaster.
