List of earthquakes in Italy that clearly affected the center of Italy or many
parts of it. In Italy, earthquake risk was concentrated in the central-southern
part of the peninsula, along the Apennine Ridge, in Calabria and Sicily, and in
slightly northern regions, such as Friuli, Veneto, and western Liguria.

Italy is located south of the Eurasian Plate, which is joined by the Aegean
Sea Plate, the Adriatic Plate, and the Anatolian Plate. The Apennine Mountains
have countless faults spread along the entire Italian peninsula. And between
the Eurasian and Adriatic plates, a large number of catastrophes can occur.
Thus, the amount of tectonic activity in Italy is very high. In addition,
Sicily and Calabria are in the vicinity of the same boundary where the African
plate is subducting under the Eurasian plate. Which formed the stratovolcano
known as Mount Etna.
